What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $55,000 - $67,000/year. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location

We are currently hiring two (2) Assistant Golf Course Superintendents. In this position you can expect to work on site at either Kennedy Golf Course or Willis Case Golf Course 5 days per week.

Denver Parks and Recreation’s Golf Division is looking to hire an enthusiastic and hard-working Assistant Superintendent to join our team at one of our two locations. Kennedy Golf Course boasts 36-holes of golf (400 acres) and is a great landing spot for high-performing turfgrass professionals who enjoy a fast-paced environment. Willis Case is just seven minutes northwest of downtown Denver; with a panoramic view of the Rocky Mountains, the layout runs through full-grown stands of trees, with narrow, sloping fairways and small, subtle greens.

 

The Assistant Superintendent will report directly to the Superintendent and will be responsible for ensuring high-quality turf conditions, executing golf course operation priorities set forth by the Superintendent, and managing the day-to-day course maintenance.

 

Specifically, as the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent you will be responsible for:

 

  • Directing and supervising the work of up to 15 seasonal outdoor workers
  • Supervising irrigation and water management practices
  • Overseeing and conducting chemical and pesticide application
  • Managing the planning and execution of irrigation system changes and updates, and course construction projects (as needed)
  • Ensuring proper winterization of the course including fencing, tarping, end-of-season agronomy practices, irrigation winterization, and chemical applications
  • Monitoring, controlling, and ordering maintenance inventory
  • Enforcing and following safety standards and practices for employees
  • Partnering with their assigned Recruiter to attract, interview, hire, and retain seasonal employees
  • Recommending employee disciplinary action to the Superintendent as needed
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

 

What You’ll Bring

Denver Golf is looking for a confident, team-oriented individual to join their team. Our ideal candidate will be savvy on identifying and resolving equipment malfunctions, will be an adept problem solver, and is willing to learn new trades and skills to support operations. Our ideal candidate will be comfortable working in all weather conditions, not afraid to jump in when needed, and will be comfortable interacting with a diverse team of coworkers as well as with the public.

 

In addition, our ideal candidate will possess the following:

 

  • Experience with cool season and winterization of courses, particularly in a high plains semi-arid environment
  • Experience with golf course operations and turf management
  • Experience using and training staff on Toro LYNX Control System, Toro myTurf Equipment Management Software, FROST GPS Spray System, and POGO Turf
  • Experience managing seasonal/on-call employees

 

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education Requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
  • Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of experience in golf course maintenance
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
  • Licensure and/or Certification: Possession of a Qualified Supervisor Turf Pest Control License from the Colorado Department of Agriculture prior to the completion of the probationary period; licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
