POSITION TITLE: Director of Golf Instruction

DEPARTMENT: First Tee – Monterey County

SUPERVISOR: Senior Program Director                              

FLSA STATUS: Full-time, Non-Exempt

 

Mission

Deliver a targeted curriculum of golf and character development, life skills, academic support, higher education, mentorship, and career development.

 

Position Summary

The Director of Instruction will manage and oversee all Golf Instruction at Twin Creeks Golf Course. Managerial responsibilities will also include the complete oversight of the Driving Range Operation and its employees, and management of all inventory purchasing for the Pro Shop; including merchandising and controlling all budgets pertaining to Twin Creeks Golf Course, Demo & Fitting materials, and Rental Equipment. They will also be responsible for leading youth programming in schools and other locations besides Twin Creeks Golf Course.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Program Director:

 

  • Promote The First Tee’s mission by modeling The First Tee Nine Core Values and adherence to The First Tee Code of Conduct.
  • Provide a safe environment for customers and participants.
  • Maintain and organize all golf course equipment.
  • Ensure security of equipment in storage areas.
  • Provide golf instruction to all youth participants and adult customers.
  • Ensure that Point of Sales is maintained in a neat and clean manner daily by delegating and managing POS staff.
  • Manage monthly inventory.
  • Ensure the daily, weekly, and monthly procedures are being followed.
  • Manage, oversee and direct First Tee coaches when directed by Senior Program Director.
  • Lead Saturday adult classes.
  • Assist in training First Tee coaches on golf instruction, teaching philosophies and program management.
  • They will spearhead the growth of the Girls Golf initiative in accordance with the LPGA’s guidance.
  • Utilize state-of-the-art teaching and learning theories and integrate the use of teaching aids, videotape, launch monitors, etc. when appropriate in all programs.
  • Closely monitor departmental income and expense statements on a monthly basis, explain variances and prepare corrective action plans.
  • Develop their own lesson book and lesson revenue with a 70%/30% split.
  • Perform duties out of class, as assigned.

 

Experience and Education Requirements

  • High School Education Required
  • PGA or LPGA member or apprentice professional.
  • At least 3 – 5 years of experience working at a golf course.
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience and developing instructional programs clinics.

 

Specific Job Knowledge and Skills

  • Fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, golf instruction and teaching methodology.
  • Fundamental supervisory practices and principles.
  • Strong organizational, planning and prioritization skill are essential.
  • Self motivated.
  • Understand stages of athletic development and age-appropriate golf instruction.
  • Possess a customer-focused attitude.
  • Experienced with computers.

 

Other Qualifications

  • Successfully pass criminal background checks though the FBI and California DOJ.
  • Successfully pass Drug Screening.
  • Possess an appropriate California Driver License with a driving record acceptable to the Future Citizens Foundation.

 

Compensation & Benefits 

 

  • Annual Salary $70,000 - $75,000 DOE

Physical Requirements:

Position requires standing, walking, crawling, and sitting. Position involves use of a keyboard involving repetitive motions with fingers, and the use of a telephone and face-to-face communications that require accurate perception of speech as well as talking and hearing. Position requires the use of tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit for prolonged periods. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
