About the Facility:

Discover a feeling of seclusion amidst its urban setting. Braemar Golf Course is conveniently located in Edina, 20 minutes from downtown Minneapolis or 20 minutes from the Mall of America/Airport.

Designed by Richard Mandell, a new state-of-the-art 18 Hole Championship course opened in August 2018. The Academy 9 Par 3 Course and Practice Facilities were also renovated and expanded in 2016.  Braemar Clubhouse sits atop a hill with spectacular views of the golf course. It includes a restaurant, an expansive deck, a private ballroom, and meeting room, plus an impressive golf shop.

 Position Description:

The Head Golf Professional will assist the PGA Director of Golf at Braemar Golf Course with Golf Operations Management and Golf Instruction Program Management at the facility.

Golf Operations Management objectives will include, operating and managing all aspects of the golf business while customer service excellence is consistently delivered, and revenues and profitability are maximized; being proactive and innovative in creating and delivering a “Best in Class” golf experience; operating the Braemar golf business within the approved operating budget and deliver the agreed targets whilst maximizing revenue and profitability. This position will assist in overseeing and directing the work of the Golf Shop Staff and the Outside Service Staff in delivering the agreed upon objectives for all aspects of the Braemar Golf Course operation.

Golf Instruction Program Management objectives will include assisting management of the instruction program at Braemar Golf Course, delivering a profitable program that is of a consistently high standard and meets or exceeds the needs and expectations of its customers; being proactive and innovative in creating and delivering golf development initiatives; operating the Braemar Golf Academy within the approved operating budget and deliver the agreed targets whilst maximizing revenue and profitability. This position will be responsible for delivering the agreed objectives for all aspects of the Braemar Golf Academy.

Specific Responsibilities - include but are not limited to:

Golf Operations Management:

  • Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, motivating, and supervising all golf operations staff.
  • Attend staff meetings as scheduled by management.
  • Update and maintain golf shop policies and procedures and job descriptions and ensure they are adhered to and posted in the proper areas.
  • Assist in overseeing the administration of the golf handicap program.
  • Assist in the publications of newsletters, informational, and promotional materials.
  • Adhere to, enforce, and implement policies and procedures of the facility.
  • Setup regular written communication with supervisor to include facility, programming, staff and customer updates.
  • Assist in overseeing the reservation system, starting, monitoring, and pace of play.
  • Track and verify all players and guests, green fees, golf cars, handicap fees, and other charges necessary, and facilitate accurate accounting and recordkeeping.
  • Oversee golf car fleet while ensuring proper maintenance and recordkeeping.
  • Assist in developing and managing an innovative tournament program, group outings, and leagues that service all customer segments.
  • Provide professional club fitting services.
  • Administer the Rules of Golf and educate staff. Promote and provide Rules of Golf clinics to customers.
  • Develop, maintain, update, and utilize customer database.
  • Assist in oversight of retail merchandise concession in step with the mission of the golf operation and facility.
  • Assist in maintaining a profitable golf merchandising operation.
  • Assist in development of buying plans and all golf related purchasing.
  • Conduct physical inventories regularly.
  • Assist in the development of necessary systems utilizing POS to safeguard inventories and cash.
  • Maintain accurate recordkeeping policies and procedures.
  • Assist in supervision and training of all golf shop staff to maximize sales opportunities.
  • Maintain an attractive and orderly appearance in and around the golf shop.
  • Work closely with all department heads to achieve the goals and objectives of the facility.

Golf Instruction Program Management:

  • Assist in developing, providing, and overseeing an enhanced golf instruction program offering individual and group clinics for all levels.
  • Assist in development and oversight of player development programs.
  • Utilize PGA of America player development tools, resources, and materials.
  • Focus on programs for women, families, seniors, and juniors.
  • Assist with the training of the full facility staff regarding player development and encourage their participation.
  • Work with management to develop Player Development marketing.

Knowledge, Skills and Traits:

  • Maintain PGA of America membership in good standing in an active classification.
  • Fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, golf facility operations and tournament operations.
  • Fundamental supervisory practices and principles
  • Act as a role model for all employees by demonstrating the behavior and work ethic expected of all employees.
  • Strong organizational, planning and prioritization skills.
  • Self-motivated with desire to promote and market.

  • Utilize the resources of PGA player development programs such as Get Golf Ready, PGA Sports Academy, Tee it Forward and others.
  • Experienced computer user including Microsoft Word and Excel. Proficient in other applications, i.e., email, internet, tournament, and database.
  • Maintain and promote a positive professional image within the community.
  • Remain current on teaching innovations.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Class A member of PGA, LPGA member or PGA Associate Level 3 minimum.
  • Bachelor’s degree (BA); and/or minimum 3 years’ experience as a Golf Professional; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in managing a golf shop staff that includes Golf Shop Staff, Outside Service Staff.
  • Experience in conducting a successful golf instruction program, including budgets, revenue reporting, sales and marketing.
  • IT literate with experience of relevant software applications (PC and/or Mac) and computerized POS; Management systems/data storage and tee time systems.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

Physical effort is moderate, with lifting or carrying of 25 pounds intermittently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.  Ninety percent of time is spent on incumbent’s feet and around the grounds.

Working Conditions:

Some work is performed in a normal office environment; however interruptions are frequent.  There can also be exposure to uncomfortable weather conditions.  The job may involve dealing with and calming customers who are emotionally charged over an issue.
