DEPARTMENT:  Birdwood Golf Course - Operations

REPORTS TO:     Director of Golf

 

JOB OVERVIEW:

The Head Golf Professional is responsible for the overall management of daily operations, hiring and training all golf operations team members, overseeing unparalleled guest service standards, successful financial and operational performance, and performing a multitude of administrative functions.  The Head Professional will contribute to making Birdwood at Boar’s Head Resort the best golf experience in Central Virginia.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work 75% of the time in the golf pro shop and clubhouse.  Work 25% of the time outdoors managing daily play, events, servicing members and guests, and teaching golf.

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

  • Manage, oversee, and delegate all aspects of the daily operation for all golf facilities
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise all golf department operations staff
  • Ensure Forbes service standards are maintained with every member and guest interaction
  • Oversee and administer all internal member and external groups, tournaments, and events
  • Achieve and contribute to the success of all golf financial and operational performance goals
  • Assist and collaborate w/ the Director of Instruction to provide comprehensive golf instruction programs
  • Assist and support the Membership Sales Manager in promoting new member leads, working with prospective

Members, and the orientation of new members

  • Oversee and maintain a profitable golf merchandise retail operation
  • Maintain relationships and work closely with all property department managers to achieve resort goals
  • Contribute to the overall resort team effort by completing additional duties as requested

 

Operations Management Functions

 

  • Oversee the tee time reservation system, starting, monitoring, and pace of play
  • Ensure accurate accounting, recording, and tracking of all member and guest fees
  • Oversee golf car fleet while ensuring proper maintenance and storage
  • Develop and manage an innovative comprehensive member and guest schedule for tournaments, group outings, and special events
  • Assist in the operation and management of well-maintained organized practice facilities
  • Provide professional teaching, club fitting and club repair services
  • Ensure the proper storage, maintenance, cleaning and organization of all golf equipment and rentals

 

 

Golf Administration Functions

 

  • Create, update and maintain golf operations policies and procedures along with job descriptions
  • Adhere to, enforce, and implement policies and procedures of the facility
  • Ensure performance reviews are completed and recorded for all applicable staff
  • Attend all staff meetings scheduled by management and schedule staff meetings w/ golf operations team
  • Assist with marketing, newsletters, written communications, posting member and guest information, and all golf promotional materials
  • Oversee the administration of the World Handicap Program for members and guests
  • Work with, establish, administer and consult with golf committees as requested
  • Assist and support all golf facility related community partnership/volunteer opportunities and programs

 

Business and Financial Functions

 

  • Assist in the development and preparation of operational budgets and forecasts
  • Review of all golf operations revenues and expenses on a daily, weekly, monthly, and/or annual basis
  • Manage tee sheets and customer base to maximize course usage at highest possible rates
  • Ensure systems controls are in place to safeguard assets, revenues, and resources
  • Maintain comprehensive and consistent opening/closing shift accounting and operational procedures
  • Offer a variety of profitable programs and events that include women, juniors, seniors, and families
  • Assist the DOI and DOG with creation and administration of BH Golf Academy developmental programs
  • Coordinate w/ Food and Beverage Managers to maximize F&B sales on daily basis and for special events

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Essential:

 

  • PGA and/or LPGA Class A Member in good standing
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in teaching golf
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in overseeing all golf instructional programs at a facility
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office, Golf Genius and GHIN software
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively in both verbal and written formats
  • Proficient in each of the following: teaching, using technology, club fitting, practice facility management
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including holidays, weekends, early mornings and evenings
  • Proven ability to:
  • Work well and positively with management and colleagues within a team environment while having the ability to work independently when required
  • Develop strong and positive relationships with all members, key stakeholders, and golf community
  • Exhibit efficient time management skills and prioritize tasks
  • Resolve problems calmly and professionally, using good judgment and strong interpersonal skills
  • Understand member and guest service needs and provide anticipatory service

 

Desirable:

 

  • Experience operating Trackman and SAM Putt Lab or similar
  • 4 year college degree or equivalent
  • PGA and golf industry certifications
  •        Experience managing Golf POS, Schedulers and Tee Time Management systems

Base Salary                         $63,000-$68,000

Commissions/Bonus       $5,000-$10,000
