Employment Type: Part Time – Coaches are paid $10.00 - $15.00 an hour dependent on experience.  Coaches compensation can grow based upon The First Tee training.

Why We Do What We Do
Today’s children and youth are growing up in a challenging time:

  • ·         Limited focus on social and emotional learning in the classroom.
  • ·         11.3 million youth are either alone and unsupervised during the critical hours of 3-6 p.m.
  • ·         Concerns about children getting injured, the quality or behavior of coaches, and the emphasis on winning over having fun.
  • ·         16 million American youth will reach the age of 19 without having had a mentor of any kind.
  • ·         1 in 5 public high school students are dropping out

Position Summary: The First Tee Coach is responsible for teaching The First Tee Nine Core Values, The First Tee Nine Healthy Habits, life skills, and all aspects of the game of golf to youth and teens, through the delivery of The First Tee’s Golf & Life Skills Curriculum. The First Tee Coach will work with a lead instructor and possibly volunteers to a class of up to 16 participants ages 7 – 18.  The program is taught in a fun and interactive way using a combination of both traditional golf and non-traditional methods.

Commitment: Coaches must be able to commit to teaching The First Tee’s Programs on weekday nights and/or weekends (Saturday’s).  Each class meets once a week for an hour and a half for a ten week session in the Winter (January – March), Spring (April – June), and Fall (September – November).  Classes meet twice a week for four weeks in the summer (June – August).  Coaches arrive approximate 45 minutes before class to set up and typically stay 30 minutes after for breakdown and continuous learning.

  • Hunters Creek Golf Club (South Orlando)
  • Rio Pinar Country Club (East Orlando)
  • Stoneybrook West Golf Club (Winter Garden)
  • Eagle Creek Golf Club (Lake Nona)
  • Mayfair Country Club (Sanford)
  • Kings Ridge Golf Club (Clermont)
  • Green Valley Golf and Country Club (Clermont)

Job Duties and Requirements

The role of an Coach is to provide a high-quality, engaging learning experience. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Ongoing                    

  • Learning the curriculum to build a comprehensive understanding of the Life Skills Experience (LSE).
  • Staying informed about local and national events, initiatives and programs related to The First Tee.
  • Participating regularly in coach meetings, trainings, and special events provided by the chapter.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of new ideas to meet chapter goals.

Daily

  • Staying informed by reading chapter emails and communicating with colleagues and Program Director.
  • Preparing for class by arriving early and informed through program updates and coach materials.
  • Setting up and engaging learning environment using relevant spaces.
  • Organizing equipment and storage areas to a high standard of order and cleanliness.
  • Delivering a high-quality experience that ensures a positive and productive learning environment.
  • Adapting to changing and unpredictable circumstances through collaborative problem-solving.
  • Record management: maintain accurate rosters, certification data and incident reports.
  • Empowering volunteers by delegating and assigning tasks to volunteers.
  • Communicating and building rapport with participants and families.
  • Reporting important updates, incidents, and follow-ups to the Program Director and supervisors.
