POSITION TITLE:                                                      Golf Operations Manager

                                                                                      EA – ($26,000 - $41,600 Annually)

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 

The Golf Operations Manager shall be responsible for assisting with the general administration, management, coordination and supervision of the day-to-day activities of the part-time and volunteer golf operational staffs, course management, food and beverage operations, merchandise operations and general maintenance of the course and facilities and their events to ensure that the services are provided in an efficient, effective, and timely manner. 

 

Under the direction of the Director of Golf Operations, the Operations Manager is responsible for assisting in the planning, organizing, scheduling, controlling and monitoring golf, food and beverage, merchandise and sales operations to insure revenue generation and the ongoing maintenance and improvement of the overall appearance/integrity of the course and facilities for the customers of Rogers Park Golf Course.

 

In addition, the Golf Operations Manager shall be responsible for adherence to Authority operational policies and procedures designed to promote efficiency of operation and quality of service.

 

POSITION REPORTS DIRECTLY TO:                               Director of Golf Operations

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Assist in implementing day-to-day operational policies and procedures for the department by coordinating, planning, organizing, scheduling, assigning, monitoring, analyzing and correcting work assignments of golf operations staff.  Assures the highest quality service to all tenants by implementing established goals and supervising the part time and volunteer golf operations staff.

 

  • Oversee and participate in the interviewing, hiring, training, coaching and development of part-time and volunteer golf operations personnel in accordance with established guidelines and procedures.  Ensure the development, ongoing improvement, and implementation of formalized training and education programs for the Rogers Park Golf Operations Department.
  • Assist in the oversight and monitoring of daily cash receipts and complete daily bank deposits within Authority guidelines and procedures.   Assist with inventory control measures at Rogers Park Golf Course.   Participate in inventory control measures at other Authority managed golf courses to complete monthly inventory counts as needed.   Review and report any inconsistencies in cash or inventory to the Authority finance department and the Director of Golf Operations in a timely fashion.
  • Assist in the day to day management of all building structures and systems for all golf courses and related buildings:  turf, sand traps, roofs, floors, grounds, life safety, HVAC equipment, electrical, plumbing, telecommunications, cart barns, cart fleets, maintenance storage facilities, domestic water and sewer, irrigation, sprinkler and so forth.  Conduct regular facility inspections to review course conditions, facilities, equipment, personnel, general activity and share findings the Director of Golf Operations to assist in maintaining a superior level of course function, polish and efficiency.  Recommend equipment, supplies and materials required to provide services to Authority golf customers. 

  • In the absence of the Director of Golf Operations, ensure the safety of customers, staff, contractors and equipment by monitoring weather conditions daily.  Close golf courses when hazardous conditions exist. 
  • Participate in employee committees and staff meetings emphasizing team management, high morale and quality service to Authority customers.  As directed, performance evaluation and professional development programs for subordinate personnel. Counsel subordinate personnel as required to manage personnel issues. Conduct internal investigations as required by any on-going disciplinary process and recommend and/or administer discipline as required.  Attendance and/or travel may be required for meetings held off site.
  • Assist in the coordination with outside organizations, code officials, vendors, city departments, private firms and clients and operational service contractors, to include course maintenance, security services and catering companies who frequently service the course. 
  • Assist with social media communication and tournament sales/oversight to provide the best value to the citizens of Tampa while maximizing revenues.   Assist in the development and implementation revenue development strategies and operating efficiency measures, programs and systems to maintain or improve customer satisfaction at Rogers Park Golf Course.
  • Assist in providing a safe environment free of harassment for department employees and ensure compliance with all Authority policies, applicable OSHA standards and local, state, and federal laws including the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
  • Seek out, develop, and assist in the participation in industry related associations and trade shows in support of quality service to our customers. Keep abreast of innovations, improvements in procedures, and developments within the golf industry to seek better methods to improve revenues and efficiency, levels of service, personnel performance, and reducing operating costs.
  • Participate in budget meetings and provide input relating to expenditure projection as directed.  Assist in the development and oversight of capital improvement projects with an eye toward providing superior facilities and equipment as a customer service ‘product.”  Assist in developing accurate bid specifications for departmental purchases.  Review and approve facility staff payroll and daily departmental purchases in the absence of the Director of Golf Operations.  Follow all Authority purchasing procedures.
  • Use computer terminal to enter and retrieve information and prepare reports of departmental activities.  Assist in maintaining golf course filing system and records to ensure that all required documentation, receipts, inventories, event details, licensing, personnel, equipment, and supplies are accurately maintained.
  • Perform other duties, functions, special projects and responsibilities, as assigned.

 

general requirements:

  • The Golf Operations Manager shall be knowledgeable in all administrative and operational rules, procedures and programs of the golf operations division.   Knowledge of principals and techniques used in the successful management of municipal golf courses.
  • Position requires irregular schedules, including evenings, weekends and holidays; the performance of work assignments may not be directly related to job specifications.  Adjustments of leave, shifts and breaks may be required upon short notice.
  • Monitor work activities of contract vendor services as required.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills including the ability to motivate others.
  • Develop and maintain accurate records, logs and reports for the department.
  • Position requires ability to interact with a diverse group of fellow employees, clients, the public and outside vendors in a courteous, cooperative and professional manner.
  • Maintain a high public image, positive attitude and demeanor when performing a service for customers and the public.
  • Serve as the Operations Manager for any of the Golf Operations departments as required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or a GED certificate required.  Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in sports management, business administration or related field preferred.  Management experience in the golf course management may be substituted at the rate of two (2) years experience for each year of college.
  • One (1) year of golf course work experience.  Two (2) or more years of full-time work experience in a Golf pro shop preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s license.   Registration as an apprentice of the PGA or LPGA of America preferred.  
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of computer systems and demonstrated ability to operate electronic tee sheet and business application software.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills in the English language.
  • Ability to stand or walk for long periods of time.
