Overview

This entry level Assistant Golf Professional’s position is available immediately and offers an outstanding platform for professional growth and development. 

 

The ideal candidate will have some green-grass experience and will be currently enrolled in the PGA Professional Golf Management Program (PGM Level I or Level II preferred) and / or be enrolled in (or completed) the LPGA T&CP Teacher Education Program (TEP), along with successful completion of PAT is preferred.  Otherwise suitable candidates who are eligible and willing to enroll in the most suitable program may also be considered.

 

Experience Required

Prefer a minimum of one (1) full season of employment in a similar position at a green-grass golf facility but will consider applicant with strong employment history in complementary business / industry / position.

 

Essential Responsibilities

Specific Functions & Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer services, professional advice and assistance to members, guests and fellow staff.
  • Control and manage play, ensure guest check-in and fee collection in coordination with the starter.
  • Assist in managing the daily operation of the practice facility.
  • Provide golf instruction and clinics that are consistent with instructional methods, policies and procedures.
  • Supervise, schedule and train golf personnel, including but not limited to starters, marshals and outside service staff as directed by the Head Golf Professional.
  • Assist in the purchasing, receipt, display, inventory, control, promotion and sales of merchandise.
  • Assist in the performance of club repair as directed by the Head Golf Professional.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner and maintain a professional image at all times.
  • Be informed on and promote all club activities and services.
  • Support in the management of the golf handicap program.
  • Support in the enforcement of all rules and regulations governing golf course / facility usage.
  • Assist staff when necessary with the resolution of member concerns.
  • Coach, counsel and discipline staff as necessary.
  • Interview and make recommendations for hiring staff.
  • Make recommendation to improve/enhance golf facilities and programs.
  • Complete daily reports for submission to Head Golf Professional.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head Golf Professional, Director of Golf or General Manager.
  • Monitor overall performance of Golf Operations Staff to include support to Annual Performance Reviews for subordinate staff with guidance from Head Professional.

  Special Qualifications / Requirements

  • Complete the requirements of PGA membership and maintain an active classification in The PGA of America.
  • PGA Membership or current enrollment in the PGA Professional Golf Management (PGM) program.
  • Requires basic understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf, including the ability to effectively convey those principles to players and staff.
  • Requires basic knowledge of golf operational management practices, tournament operation, golf rules application, golf instructional techniques, club fitting and current industry equipment trends.
  • Requires a working knowledge of golf cart maintenance and golf course maintenance & set-up practices as they relate to the golf operation.
  • Requires administrative and executive skills suitable for dealing with staff scheduling, training and supervision.
  • Requires excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Requires basic computer skills, including some word processing and spreadsheet functions as well as familiarity with industry specific software applications for inventory control, point of sale functions, golf handicap and tournament management.

 

Physical Requirements

  • The position requires vision acuity of not less than 20/20 after correction.  If corrective lenses are required, they must not interfere with ability to carry out ANY of the required functions of the position.
  • The position requires ability to hear at a normal conversational level.  If correction is required, it must not interfere with ability to carry out ANY of the required functions of the position.
  • The position requires the ability to speak clearly and to converse fluently and effectively in the English language.
  • The position requires the ability to walk and/or remain on ones’ feet for extended periods of time.  Additionally, the ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel and/or crawl may be required from time to time.
  • The position requires the ability to lift at least 50 pounds overhead and to lift at least 75 pounds to waist high.
  • The position requires the ability to work outdoors for extended periods in seasonal conditions / temperatures normally associated with northern Virginia, or specifically, the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
  • The position requires the ability to play golf at a level consistent with that of a club professional.
