GOLF OPERATIONS MANAGER

to:    Recreation and Special Events
Director

 

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

Under direction,
plans, organizes, coordinates and supervises the operations of the community golf
courses; and performs related work as required. Works with the contracted
restaurant owner/manager.

 

Supervision is
exercised over all division personnel. 
Work involves continuing contact with residents, their guests using golf
facilities, board directors, residents, other departments, divisions, vendors
and restaurant contractor.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:                                                                          

 

Plans, organizes and supervises the
use of the golf facilities.  Confers with
the Recreation and Special Events Director concerning objectives, new or
revised policies, unusual operating problems and matters affecting other
departments and divisions; plans and implements new programs and procedures in
accordance of the departments vision, mission and objectives; develops
innovative social events and tournaments throughout the year that is inclusive
of all golf members. 

 

Develops an annual
budget and operates within the annual budget upon approval; prepares annual
budget estimates and administers the approved budget.  Develops work programs and schedules;
supervises and directs the work of subordinates within the division; plans and
supervises the development of division and departmental training and safety
programs; selects and evaluates employees; provides feedback and professional
development to employees throughout their review period; provides feedback
during employee performance review that is timely, achievable, developmental,
measurable, specific, honest, and designed to help the employees succeed.

 

Directs
the work of subordinates engaged in the teaching, scheduling and starting of golf
course, driving range, and leisure course play and the selection of inventory
and sale of golf shop merchandise. 
Maintenance and rental of golf carts and the maintenance of related
records and reports. Establishes golf shop inventory levels and supervises the
maintenance of inventory.

 

Drives a
vehicle to meetings, workshops, and other job related responsibilities.

Regular
Attendance Required.  All duties are
performed on site for the Community.

 

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

Assists golf course
users with a variety of problems; conducts speciality golf lessons and clinics;
develops and administers golf socials, tournaments and special events; schedules
large groups of part-time employees who assist in the operation of the golf
division; oversees computer, photo ID programs and reservation process.

 

Attends monthly
and/or periodic meetings of Village Managemen Services, Inc., departments and
resident committees as determined by the Recreation and Special Events Director.

 

 

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

 

PC, printer, typewriter, fax machine,
copier, calculator, cash register, photo ID camera, telephone, automobile, golf
cart and golf clubs.

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

 

While performing the
duties of this job, the employee is in a climate controlled indoor office and
normal outdoor elements.

 

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Graduation from an
accredited college with a Bachelors degree in business management, recreation,
golf management, or related field.  Experience
as a golf professional managing a golf operation or equivalent combination of
education and 7 years of increasing work experience which produces the
following:

 


  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety
    precautions of the job.

  • Knowledge of golf course scheduling, reservation and
    starting procedures.

  • Knowledge of golf equipment, merchandising and club
    repair.

  • Knowledge of methods of handling and maintaining
    records of money received and sales reported.

  • Knowledge of golf social, tournament and special event
    planning.

  • Knowledge of budgeting and clerical procedures.

  • Knowledge of marketing and advertising prinicipels. 

  • Knowledge of teambuilding and community outreach.

  • Ability to plan and coordinate golf tournaments,
    socials and special events.

  • Ability to develop and mentor staff.   

  • Ability to plan, schedule and supervise the work of
    50+ staff personnel.

  • Ability to relate to the needs and concerns of
    senior citizens, men’s and women’s golf clubs.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and bring people
    together of different demographic backgrounds.

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships
    with other employees and the public and to deal with public relations problems
    courteously and tactfully.

  • Ability to work weekdays, weekends, evenings and
    holidays.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

                                        Membership
in the Professional Golfers Association with a classification of A, A1 or A8.

 

Possession of a valid
California driver's license.

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:                                                                     

 

While
performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to drive
an automobile and golf cart, talk, hear, use hands to finger, grasp, feel and
reach.  Is regularly required to stand
for four hours per day. Occasionally carries, kneels, pulls, pushes, stoops,
and lifts up to 50 lbs.

written communication skills, customer contact, and multiple concurrent tasks.
